The German pharmaceutical company Stada enters the area of Parkinson’s in Spain with a new drug whose trade name is Lecigon. The laboratory has passed the Interministerial Price Commission and has obtained a price of 703 euros per container , an amount valid for one week of treatment.
The drug will be manufactured by the Spanish company Reig Jofre at a facility in Sweden. To date, it has produced 250,000 doses, according to Stada, to supply several European countries where the drug has been approved for months. The amount will be increased as the pharmaceutical company conquers different European markets that are still missing.
In Spain, according to data from the Spanish Society of Neurology, there are 120,000 people diagnosed with Parkinson’s. In addition, an additional 10,000 cases are detected each year.
The medicine that Stada has developed, according to its general director, Mar Fábregas, is indicated for the most advanced cases of the disease, a figure that is estimated at around 1,500 cases. Based on the price granted by the Ministry of Health, the company’s new drug has a sales potential of 50 million euros per year.

Lecigon arrives on the market providing two novelties compared to the competition that has existed until now. On the one hand, it adds a third pharmacological component to favor its therapeutic effects. On the other hand, the pump needed to administer the drug is “half the size and half the weight” of the competition, explains the general director.
To understand this latest innovation, it is necessary to know that Parkinson’s patients who need this treatment have a tube placed in the intestine . The pump is attached to this tube so that it administers the medicine according to the needs detected by the doctor. “That it is smaller in size and weighs less improves the quality of life of patients who need it,” explains Fábregas.
The company also offers the perfusion pump free of charge. In addition, it also makes a comprehensive nursing service available to patients.
